Learning Power News is a semi-monthly publication of UCLA’s Institute for Democracy, Education & Access (IDEA). We cover efforts of youth, parents, educators, and advocates to create more just and democratic conditions in California schools.
We seek news that focuses on what every student in California was promised under the state constitution, an equitable and adequate education. We believe ample resources in education can make a tangible difference for students, teachers and families. Our goal is to give voice to those who are often not recognized but are affected most by disparities in the public education system.
IDEA’s mission is to make high quality public schooling as well as college or career training a routine occurrence in low-income communities of color. Research, media outreach and advocacy are used to empower individuals, build relationships and create knowledge for civic participation and social justice. IDEA seeks to become an intellectual home for a broad based social movement that challenges the pervasive racial and social class inequalities.
